LESS IS MORE- LP THE CREDITS AND MEANING BEHIND THE TITLE/MUSIC

If you picked up on of my CD's, or someone gave you a copy, and you are looking to find out the full deal...welcome. In this digital world, we don't have to use so much paper. You can print this out if you a credit reader, and I will post individual blogs of the lyrics to each song on Less Is More. For now...the credits

1. Hip Hop For Hire
Produced by Big Tunes/Affiliated Music (ASCAP)
Written By JAHI (BMI)
recorded at The Boogie Shack, Oakland CA
additional vocals provided by Cole
Big Tunes is all over this project. His production and overall cool vibe created an atmosphere where the energy was right to create. And for the song, not tooting my own horn, but I've actually played a show in every city mentioned. The concept of Hip Hop For Hire goes back to the Pioneer Years of Hip Hop where DJ's had this sign posted on the back of their van to promote themselves for gigs.

2. The Right Way
Produced, Arranged and Written by Jahi (BMI)
Written By JAHI (BMI)
created in the home lab pad, Baltimore Maryland
recorded at The Boogie Shack, Oakland CA
co-written by Big Tunes/ Affiliated Music (ASCAP)
10 years in music and my first self produced track. Made on Cakewalk, and just really playing around with it for the first time. In this time where it seems easy to just call a female a "jump off" or a "trick," I wanted to do a song for the ladies with meaning and purpose.

3. Every Word
Produced by Wreckroom Studios (Cleveland, Ohio)
Written By JAHI (BMI)
recorded at Onefam Studios inside Soundwave- Oakland CA
I call this one the sleeper track. It came out of no where and was written on Easter 2008. My favorite so far on the album. Opened up on this one and thought about Nas for some reason on this one. My favorite line-
"Looking for an empty bag of rhymes I'm not him/
striving to be a reflection of a higher HIM/
this for you-you and you/and they-they and them/
it's not for everybody for your mind soul and body..."

4. Explore feat. Gift of Gab from Blackalicious
Produced by Big Tunes/Affiliated Music (ASCAP)
Written By JAHI (BMI) and Tim Parker
recorded at The Boogie Shack, Oakland CA
Gift of Gab and I have been all over the US and Europe performing together. It was with Gab that I went to Europe for the 1st time. It was an honor and fun to finally hook up with my big bro. Big Tunes came through with the music bed, and we wrote this whole song on the spot. As always, thought provoking lyrics with a lot of hidden meanings. Very spiritual song on a lot of levels, and when we say "Explore," it simple means to look inside your own soul to find inspiration.

5. Let It Out
Produced by Bassnectar
Written By JAHI (BMI)
recorded at Bassnectar's crib, Berkeley, CA
Unlikely combinations are exciting. Bassnectar and I connected a few years back. He wanted something different on this track, but one morning I just start saying "Let It Out," and the whole song developed from there. I was thinking about how this is my 10 year of doing music mostly full time. There's a celebration in the track, and I like the fact that it's really more Jungle than Hip Hop. Expect the unexpected.

6. What We Can Do feat Rev. Al Sharpton
Produced by DJ Deboniare
Written By JAHI (BMI)
recorded at Cue Recording Studios, Falls Church VA
The speech at the beginning is Rev. Al Sharpton as he was giving the final words at James Brown's funeral. I was so happy I had my phone on me to record this clip. One of my most political songs to date, and challenging all of us to live up to our true potential.

7. THIS SIDE
Produced by Big Tunes/Affiliated Music
Written By JAHI (BMI)
recorded at The Boogie Shack, Oakland CA
"Im tired of being so serious" is my favorite line off this song. This is my "conscious party song." It felt like a Dr. Dre track to me, and I approached saying- I wonder what 50 Cent would do? Known for having club bangers, I used my own clean lyrical style, but I am looking to get you to move ya body on this one. Leaving on a high note and having fun with it.

LYRICS TO WHAT WE CAN DO- TRACK 6 ON LESS IS MORE

What We Can Do
Written by JAHI

Let me tell you what we can do

We can start by raising the black panthers again
And realize the government is not your friend
If you poor black of brown shine the light on these things
You saw the way they did us down in New Orleans
We can stop trusting anyone other than ourselves
Turn off the TV take a book off the shelf and read it
Build grocery stores we need it
Pork sugar and fast food just stop eating it

Let me tell you what we can do

We can take better of… Continue
